On Yahoo homepage today, I saw Obama hunting Osama. Well, they didn't quite word it that way, but that's the way I saw it. I never thought we'd elect some guy named Barack Hussein Obama. That's about as bad as it can get in having a terrible name for the president of the United States. Not only is he associated with Osama, but Saddam Hussein. Only way to make his name worse is if his parents named him Muhammed. There's hope for all those Henry Hitlers, Manny Mussolinis, and Mandy Mansons out there born with terrible names in becoming president. Which lead me think... what's the worst name I could give my future son? Thoughts of all those kids in elementary school asking me if I was related to Bruce Lee came to mind. Bruce Leroy Lee. That would be a hilarious name... but my son would hate me for life. The Last Dragon... what a great 80s movie.
Found an interesting article about how sense of smell affects us. Very interesting read since I could relate to the writer. The part about her being the one to clean vomit-stained carpet because she couldn't smell it was pretty funny to me since that happened in the past. My sense of smell is terrible. I think I lost it when I worked as a lab helper at UCLA a while back. I saw a beaker and didn't know if it was clean or not, so in a moment of stupidity, I decided to take a whiff. Turns out the beaker had some acetic acid or something. I didn't lose my sense of smell completely... just have to bring it really close to my nose usually. I can still smell kimchi... if it's pungent enough. I didn't know people get really depressed after losing their sense of smell. Seems like the one thing we can live without. Maybe that explains why Bart's aunts were so grouchy in the Simpsons. I remember an episode where Sideshow Bob was trying to kill them by using gas since they couldn't smell it. I feel I'm not more depressed than any normal person usually is with my loss of smell though. I read somewhere that smell is linked to memory, so maybe that's why I have a hard time remembering certain events. One positive thing is that before I lost my sense of smell, I couldn't stand Pho. It just smelled bad. Now, I can't smell it at all, so I can just enjoy the taste of it. Or atleast the taste of sriracha and brown sauce.
Oh... u gotta be freakin kidding me. Unbelievable. So... the game that I've been waiting 2 years for is finally out in 1 day. My x-box 360 decides to crap out on me and now has the infamous red ring of death... the day before Ninja Gaiden 2 is out. Freakin great. Arg. Now I'm forced to be more productive instead of slicing and dicing bad guys.
Since my 30th birthday a few months ago, I've been trying to set some small goals to achieve. Most of these goals are small stupid stuff... "Teach an old dog new tricks" as they say. Except, I'm a do-it-yourself kind of guy, so I don't ask for instructions or take any lessons. I just look it up online or try the trial and error method. I have a small list of things that I've been wanting to do, but haven't.
Whistle When I was in 4th grade, there was this Mexican guy that I saw whistle. Not whistling like pucker up whistling, but like Phil Jackson, high pitch, wake up the neighborhood whistle. I went up to him and asked him how to do it and he just told me I'd know when I turned 5th grade. Well, seeing as I'm way past 5th grade and still don't know how, I guess he lied to me. Maybe I'm just physically incapable of doing it. This is on my figure it out later list.
Twirl a pen Remember seeing those chinese guys at school that whirled their pen around their fingers? Well, I thought that was pretty cool, but I never bothered to ask them how they do that. That would be uncool. Anyways, I actually looked it up on YouTube a while back and saw a quick video on how to do it. I've been practicing diligently at work, but alas I've only made slight progress. My clumsy fingers are hold me back. If you've ever seen my hands, you'll notice something is slightly off. I always thought my hands were normal, but one day I noticed that this one guy next to me had really short thumbs. I thought that was quite weird so I looked around and noticed that everyone else had short thumbs too. After further reviewing my own hands, I realized my thumbs were almost as long as my index finger. I guess that explains why I always jamming my thumbs when playing football and basketball. I guess I either have 4 short fingers or 1 really long thumb. I'll take the long thumb. Anyways, pen twirling... still learning.
Learn to juggle Found a video online with step by step instructions on how to juggle. Concept was simple enough. However, the practice is more difficult. This is on my learn to do later list.
Get a remote controlled car Well, the closest I had to a remote control car was this one car my dad bought me when I was like 5 years old. Clap once to make it go, clap again to make it stop. Cheesy, but it sure was fun back then. Well, still no remote control car, but I did get a helicopter. A couple co-workers and I bought these tiny little helicopters and flew them in the conference room during our breaks. Cost wasn't too much and the copter was small enough to fit in the palm of my hand. That sure was fun, but controlling it is quite difficult. Someday, I will move up to the bigger, outdoor version. Remote control car... to be purchased later.
Learn to play an instrument I played Clarinet in junior high band. Apparently, clarinets were declared uncool. Anyways, tried playing guitar, but my huge thumbs and clumsy fingers wouldn't cooperate so that was a bust. Purchased a saxophone(on a whim) when I was in college, but my med student neighbors didn't like me practicing so that was a bust too. Recently, I've been reading up on how to play drums. During my lunch breaks, I'd look it up online and read about how to play drums. A co-worker who plays drums happened to see me looking at the websites and gave me a set of drumsticks to get me started. SCORE! Purchased one of those practice pads on eBay on the cheap. However, this coincided with me getting my home theatre/HD-DVD/DirecTV so drums... are put on hold for now.
Hmmm, that's all I can remember of the things I've wanted to do... for now.
You know how when you watch something like "The Office" or "Office Space" and it's so funny because there are so many weird people that are in every office? Here something that everyone who has ever played basketball can relate to.
